Building a Small Network Introduction

Building a Small Network

The equipment required to set up a small network between two PCs using a Cisco switch, two PCs with Ethernet ports, Ethernet cables, two Cisco switches, and console cables to configure the Cisco IOS devices via the console ports are briefly described in this paragraph.
Connect the two switches first, then all of the devices. Attach one end of an Ethernet cable to S1's F0/1 and the other end to S2's F0/1. Next, attach the PCs to their respective switches. Attach one end of the second Ethernet cable to PC-A's NIC port and attach the other end to S1's F0/6.
The light for F0/6 should turn yellow and then green after the PC is attached to the switch, proving that PC-A was connected properly. Attach one end of the final Ethernet cable to PC-B's NIC port. Attach the cable's other end to S2's F0/18. The light for F0/18 should turn amber and then green after the PC is attached to the switch, proving that the PC-B was connected properly.
Examine network connections graphically now.
