Today's network are constructed using a collection of models, Protocols, and standards that control the many kinds of networking software and hardware. 

In today post, we are going to look at an overview of the most common one used, the OSI model.

a conceptual framework known as the Open Systems Interconnection model (OSI), offers a common basis for the coordination of (OSI) standards development for the purpose of systems interconnection.

A computer system's communications are divided into seven distinct abstraction levels according to the OSI reference model: Physical, Data Link, Network, Transport, Session, Presentation, and Application. 


Importance of OSI 

1- Interdependance: Each layer provides services to the layer above and depends on the services of the layer below.

2- Flow of data: As data travels between the layers, it is encapsulated before being sent over the network.

3- Troubleshooting: Understanding the OSI model can be beneficial when diagnosing network issues.

4- Consistency: Encourages compatibility between different developers and manufacturers.

5- Flexibility: Allows layers to evolve independently.

Understanding the OSI model as a network engineering student aids in the development of critical abilities in device configuration, network design, and troubleshooting. You'll learn how various protocols function at each of the seven layers and how data moves through them.
